Declarations Required

All manuscripts submitted to HAJHS must include the following declarations in a dedicated Declarations section. Each sub-section must be completed or state "Not applicable" as appropriate.

1. Ethics Approval and Consent to Participate

All manuscripts reporting research involving human participants, human data, or human tissues must include a statement detailing ethics approval and consent — even in cases where approval was formally waived. The statement should include the name of the approving committee and the ethics reference number. Studies involving animals must also contain an ethics approval statement; for work with client-owned animals, a statement confirming informed owner consent is also required.

If the manuscript does not involve human or animal subjects, data, or tissue, authors must explicitly declare: "Not applicable."

2. Consent for Publication

Written consent for publication is mandatory for all identifiable personal data, including images or video from any individual in the manuscript. For children, consent must be obtained from a parent or legal guardian. This applies to all case reports and similar submissions. If the manuscript contains no personal data from individuals, declare: "Not applicable."

3. Availability of Data and Materials

This statement must clearly indicate where the minimal dataset — the data necessary to interpret, replicate, and build upon the study findings — can be accessed. Authors must select one of the following statements:

  • "The datasets generated and analyzed during this study are publicly available in the [repository name] repository at [link/DOI]."
  • "The datasets supporting this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."
  • "All data generated or analyzed are included in this published article and its supplementary files."
  • "The datasets are not publicly available due to [specific reason] but are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."
  • "Data sharing is not applicable to this article, as no new datasets were generated or analyzed."
  • "Data are derived from third-party sources under license and are not publicly available. Access may be requested from the authors with permission from [third-party name]."

4. Competing Interests

All potential conflicts of interest — whether financial, non-financial, or related to patents (including patent numbers and titles) — must be fully disclosed. If there are no competing interests, authors must state: "The authors declare that they have no competing interests."

5. Funding

All funding sources must be clearly declared, including specific grant numbers and which authors received each award. The full names of any commercial companies that provided funding or salaries to authors must be included. Links to sponsor websites should be provided. It must also be stated whether any sponsor or funder was involved in research design, data collection, analysis, decision to publish, or manuscript preparation. If not, include: "The funder had no role in design, data collection, analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript." For unfunded research, state: "No funding."

6. Authors' Contributions

All individuals meeting authorship criteria must be listed with their full names and contributions described. Authorship requires: conceptualization, design, data acquisition, analysis, interpretation, drafting or critically revising the manuscript, final approval, and accountability. Individuals who assisted but do not meet full authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section.

7. Acknowledgments

Acknowledge individuals or groups who contributed to the work but do not meet full authorship criteria. Authors must obtain permission from all named individuals. If no such contributions were made, state: "Not applicable."
